EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a psychotherapy approach primarily used to help individuals heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. It was developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s and is particularly effective for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

During EMDR sessions, I guide the client in recalling memories while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli, often involving bilateral eye movements, tapping, or sounds. The combination of memory recall and external stimulation helps the brain reprocess the traumatic experience, reducing its emotional impact and allowing for healthier coping mechanisms. EMDR therapy works by targeting unprocessed memories stored in the brain, aiming to reduce negative emotional responses and promote healing.

Individual therapy sessions are tailored to help clients navigate a wide range of mental health challenges and presenting concerns.

My therapeutic approach combines diverse techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS/Parts work), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. By taking an eclectic approach, I integrate both cognitive and somatic methods to process experiences holistically.

Virtual therapy, also known as online or tele-therapy, is a form of counselling delivered remotely using digital platforms. Through video calls or phone sessions, clients can access mental health support from the comfort of their own homes or other convenient locations. Virtual therapy offers flexibility and accessibility, making it easier for individuals with busy schedules, mobility issues, or those living in remote areas to receive professional care.

The format and structure of virtual therapy sessions are similar to in-person sessions. I use the same evidence-based approaches to address mental health concerns as I would in person. Virtual therapy has become an increasingly popular and effective way to provide mental health services while maintaining confidentiality and privacy through the secure platform of Jane.
